Prepare Your Home for Holiday Guests

December 14, 2019

If you haven’t already had guests for Thanksgiving, there’s still the chance that you’ll be welcoming guests into your home for the various December holidays. Whether it’s as overnight guests, or just for the evening, there are ways to prep your Bluffton SC new homes to ensure every guest feels welcome and at ease.

First off, whether it’s a party or an extended stay, make sure your home gets a good cleaning. The kitchen, all bathrooms, guest bedrooms, and main living/dining areas are the key spots to focus on, ensuring there’s no accumulated dust, pet fur, or clutter. Even if you have to quickly bag up some of the clutter and hide it away in the garage for the time being, it will serve as a reminder that you probably need to do some honest decluttering in the start of the new year.

If you have a dedicated guest room, make sure the bed is made with freshly laundered sheets and that there are plenty of pillows and blankets. Even though most people use their phone as a clock, it’s a nice touch to include a bedside clock, lamps, and perhaps even a water carafe and glass. Another welcoming touch is a selection of books and magazines on a variety of topics to give your guests something to read.

In the bathroom that will be used by guests, make sure you clearly lay out fresh towels and facecloths. You may also want to include new toothbrushes and toothpaste and shower soap, shampoo, and conditioner, as those are items that are often forgotten in the rush to pack. If you have a spare hair dryer, include that as well. It’s these little touches that make life easier for everyone. The guest doesn’t feel intrusive and you aren’t running around searching for last-minute items.

Finally, do some grocery shopping with your guests in mind. This is particularly important if your guests have any specific food needs or allergies. Feel free to ask them in advance if there are any specific items they need or you should avoid. They will appreciate your concerns and feel more welcome. Be sure to have food and drinks available as soon as your guests arrive, even if just some light snacks. If they’ve been travelling for a while, they’ll probably appreciate something.

As you prepare for your guests, think about what you’d like to find available if you were the guest. Think about those items that are easy to forget when packing and consider the little special touches that make someone feel appreciated and welcome. Before you know it, your Bluffton SC new homes will earn five-star ratings from your guests.
