Give Your Entryway a Seasonal Refresh

The entry foyer is an important part of the home, since it’s the area that gives one of the first impressions of your homes in Auburn AL. As a result, you want a foyer that is warm, inviting, and useful, while still expressing some of your personal style. If your foyer is feeling a bit lacking, a few simple additions and updates can really give it new life.

The first thing to think about is what you need in a foyer. What are the practicalities that you need in this space on a daily basis. Fortunately, Grayhawk homes typically include a coat closet off the foyer, so you don’t have to worry about having a place to hang coats and store shoes. The closet serves as a great way to keep these bulkier items out of sight. However, you may still want a chair or bench along with a console table to hold mail, keys, and other odds and ends.

If you don’t have a console table, you need to get one. It’s the best way to fill the space without overwhelming it, while also giving you a place to keep all of those random items neatly organized and easy to find. There are a variety of styles of console tables to suit every design style, whether you prefer traditional, arts & crafts, or modern. You can even choose from a variety of colors, from stained wood to metal and glass, or even wood or metal with copper inlays. The options are there to help you show your personal style, right from the start.

A chair next to the console, or a bench across from it, comes in handy for putting on or removing shoes. With a bench, you could always choose one with storage allowing you to exchange indoor and outdoor shoes especially during inclement weather. Alternatively, cubbyholes under the bench can be used for storing bookbags, or even reusable shopping bags so they’re easier to remember when you’re heading out the door.

Some people prefer console tables with drawers, others prefer shelves, and some are fine with the basic table format. Choose what works best for you, especially depending on what you’re going to keep there. Drawers may be useful if you want to keep spare phone charging cords, thumb drives, face masks, or even loose change. You could even dedicate a drawer to each family member depending on space. If you don’t want drawers, but do have shelves, consider attractive woven baskets that help hide some of the unsightly items. For items like car keys, an attractive shallow bowl in wood, porcelain, or a material of your choice is a nice complement to the top of the console table.

You want the space to look warm and inviting, so even if you have overhead lighting, a lamp for the console is ideal for a warm soft glow, perfect for keeping lit when awaiting family members to return home on darker winter evenings.

Of course, there’s no reason why you can’t add some seasonal decorations to your foyer display. A photo or some sort of artwork is always nice to see over the console table, so why not switch it out for a seasonal image, such as snow-covered trees or a favorite family photo from the holidays. Instead of the lamp, you could look for some fun, pre-lit decorative trees or reindeer figures, and why not hang a few stockings from the console table. You could always keep little gifts in there for friends and family who stop by. Finally, consider a floor runner in seasonal colors or patterns — think Scandinavian rather than ugly sweater — for a perfect finishing touch.

The key to a foyer that is both functional and inviting is making sure it meets your needs, while still shows your personal style. Lamps, art, mirrors, attractive storage bowls, baskets and boxes are a great way to add style, while also performing a needed function. Family and friends alike will feel the welcoming warmth when they step into the foyers of your homes in Auburn AL.
